Seal - Strength

The force required to pull open a seam is a key characteristics of the package and its holding integrity. A Chatillon system may be used to measure the seal strength of flexible barrier materials commonly used in packaging.

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the maximum force required to tear apart the seal. In addition, however, the system may also report the percent elongation, force-extension relationship and energy (work) necessary to cause separation.

Industry standards for determining the seal strength are:
- ASTM F-88
