Adhesive - Shear Strength by Tensile Loading

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the elastic/plastic deformation, penetration resistance and the material response to stretching. Energy required for perforation are also calculated.Shear strength is used to determine the comparative shear resistance of adhesive bonds used for bonding wood and other similar materials. This type of test is often used for product research and development and qualifying adhesives for suitability and applicability.

The Chatillon system may be used to calculate the shear stress at failure in PSI (lbf-in) based on the glue line area between the two laminations.

Industry standards for determining the shear strength using tensile loading are:
- ASTM D-906
