Adhesive - Peel Strength

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the elastic/plastic deformation, penetration resistance and the material response to stretching. Energy required for perforation are also calculated.Peel strength is the average load per unit width of bond line required to separate progressively a flexible member from a rigid member or another flexible member. A flexible member will have the proper flexural strength and thickness to permit a turn back at an approximate 180-degree angle in the expected loading range of the rest of the test without failure.

The Chatillon system may be used to measure the minimum and maximum strength values and average peel or stripping strength.

Industry standards for determining the peel strength of adhesive bonds are:
- ASTM D-903
