Adhesive - Tensile Strength

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the comparative tensile properties of adhesive bonds. This type of test is often used in wood-to-wood or metal-to-metal comparisons. A Chatillon system may be used to determine the elastic/plastic deformation, penetration resistance and the material response to stretching. Energy required for perforation are also calculated. strength is reported as PSI (lbf-in). The average value of the tensile strength, with an average value of the percentage of adhesion and cohesion failure are also reported.

Industry standards for determining the tensile strength of adhesive bonds are:
- ASTM D-897
