Enclosures - Snap Engagement
Determining the snap engagement force required to open and activate a child-resistant enclosure can be achieved using a Chatillon force gauge.
Two methods are commonly used:
- Method A determines the force required to open or activate the closure by applying and measuring a downward load. The chatillon gauge will provide a measurement of the peak load required to open or activate the enclosure.
- Method B involves using a predetermined Low and High Limit and measuring the downward load compared to these specified limits. The load should open or activate at or within the limit range. The Chatillon gauge will provide a measurement of the peak load required to open or activate the enclosure, plus allow you to set a predetermined "Pass-Fail" relationship based on the user specified limits.
Industry standards for determining enclosure snap engagement resistance are:
- ASTM D-3480
