Child Resistant Enclosure - Snap Engagement

This test method is used to determine the amount of force necessary when applied at a constant rate, to achieve activation of the opening mechanism of a child-resistant enclosure.

A Chatillon® system may be used to measure the force applied based on two methods:

  • Determine the downward force to the proper location on the enclosure, and the force required to open or activate.
  • Predetermined upper and lower force limits are applied. The closure should not open or activate below the predefined lower limit; they should activate or open at or between the lower and high values.

Industry standards for determining the snap engagement downward force is:
- ASTM D-3474
