Adhesive - Pressure Sensitive Tackiness

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the elastic/plastic deformation, penetration resistance and the material response to stretching. Energy required for perforation are also calculated. For adhesives, tack may be the measured force required to separate an adhesive and the adherend at the interface shortly after they have been brought into contact under a defined load of known duration.

A Chatillon force gauge may be used to measure the bonding strength (tack) immediately after the adhesive and adherend are brought together. Normally, this is done using a probe, affixed to the gauge, and can often involve a tester to provide a measure of elongation as well.

Industry standards for conducting a tensile strength test on adhesive bonds are:
- ASTM D-2979
