Adhesive - Tensile Strength

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the elastic/plastic deformation, penetration resistance and the material response to stretching. Energy required for perforation are also calculated.Tensile testing provides reasonably accurate information with regard to the tensile strength of adhesives. A type of tensile strength test is the determination of the relative tensile strength of an adhesive using a bar and rod, butt-jointed specimen. The tensile strength is the maximum tensile stress which the specimen is capable of sustaining.

The Chatillon system will determine the maximum load during the tensile test carried to rupture and the original cross-sectional area of the specimen.

Industry standards for conducting a tensile strength test on adhesive bonds are:
- ASTM D-2095
