Adhesive - Flexural Strength

A Chatillon system may be used to determine the elastic/plastic deformation, penetration resistance and the material response to stretching. Energy required for perforation are also calculated.Flexural strength is used to determine the comparative resistance of adhesive bonds when subjected to flexural stresses. This type of test is often used for product research and development and qualifying adhesives for suitability and applicability.

The Chatillon system may be used to calculate the shear stress at failure in PSI (lbf-in) based on the glue line area between the two laminations.

Industry standards for determining the flexural strength are:
- ASTM D-1184
